Are Sanctions Against Ukraine & Russia Damaging Business Relations?

Are sanctions the right instrument for dealing with the current East-West Crisis? Sanctions have been imposed by the EU on Ukrainian and Russian officials for their part in violence against demonstrators in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea.

This seminar is organised by the International Foundation for Better Governance.

EU SanctionsFurther Magnitsky style sanctions have also been called for by the European Parliament against Russian officials and businessmen.

We invite EU experts, business leaders, civil society leaders, media and representatives of non-government organisations to analyse the situation and comment on the impact on business.

Do sanctions work?

Can business cope with these regulations, or do they effectively shut down trade and investment?

Participants of the seminar will discuss the following questions:

  • Are sanctions against Ukraine and Russia damaging business relations?
  • What is the impact of sanctions against Russia on broader economic relations?
  • Examples of policies of economic sanctions in the past. Are sanctions the right instrument for dealing with the current East-West Crisis?
  • European and American economies and the effect the sanctions will have on these.
  • Life after sanctions - who will benefit from them (the U.S., China, etc.)?
